Why wine with sushi
When people think of a drink for sushi, sake is usually the first thing that comes to mind. For a long time, wine and sushi were considered a poor match. There are not many people in Japan who have a deep understanding of both sushi and wine, and even in Tokyo, not many restaurants take this combination seriously.

That's exactly why we decided to try it at REONA. Traditional Edomae sushi paired with wines from around the world. It's a chance to experience Japanese food culture and wine from around the world together, at one counter.
A pairing that changes with each piece
At REONA, Edomae sushi is served one piece at a time. The wine changes every three or four pieces, with each wine chosen to go with the sushi being served. Because each piece is enjoyed on its own, you can really notice how the wine pairs with the fish, the fat, the acidity, and the umami each time it changes.
The same piece of sushi can taste completely different depending on what you drink with it. This is more than just eating sushi. It's a chance to discover new flavors by pairing sushi with wine.
The wine expert

Hajime TakadaWine Expert / Wine Importer
One of the navigators at the REONA counter on weekends is a wine expert who imports and sells wine. He lived in the United States for more than 20 years, has a deep understanding of American and Italian wines in particular, and explores wines from around the world, always looking at how they pair with food.
He selected these four wines one by one, tasting each of them with our sushi. He looked not only at the wine itself, but also at the type of fish, its fat, acidity and umami, as well as the Edomae techniques used for each piece.
Each time a wine is served, he explains the region, the grape, the taste, and why he chose that particular wine for that piece of sushi, in his own words.
You don't need to know anything about wine. His explanations are easy to follow even if you rarely drink wine, so if this is your first wine pairing, you may find it especially enjoyable.
Wine can show a completely different side when paired with food. We hope you'll join us and discover what REONA's Edomae sushi and wine can create together.
The plan
Four wines
One glass of each, 150ml per glass, served at the right moments throughout the course.
Signature Course
The pairing is based on the Signature Course, our 14-piece Edomae sushi omakase.
About 2.5 hours at the counter
There are six seats at the counter, where you can talk with the chef and navigator. With the wine pairing, the pace is a little more relaxed than our usual omakase.
Price
Prices include tax. After the introductory period, the Wine Pairing will be ¥13,000, bringing the total to ¥39,000 per person with the Signature Course.
These four wines are not a tasting flight. They are selected to go with the sushi. The wine selection stays secret until the day, so there is a little surprise waiting for you.
